Homework: Historical Figure

Zé da Páscoa

His name is José Linhares da Páscoa, better knew as "Zé da Páscoa". Probably nobody in class knows him, anyway he's very well-know in his town Quixadá. Talking of Quixadá, it is a city located in Ceará, Brazil. It's famous for its big rocks with different sorts of shapes like "Pedra da Galinha Choca", a big rock in a “chicken” shape.

As I was saying, Zé da Páscoa was really a great man for his family and his fans. Actually he was a Federal employee and also a writter who edited a local newspaper. Basically he was a defender of democracy and free speech. In 1967 he was elected the major of Quixadá in a legendary campaign knew as "Tostão contra milhão", in other words, he had scarce resources anyway he won against a millionaire politician.

He is considered one of the most remarkable Mayor of his town and became famous for important works like the construction of hospitals and paving works. Besides this, he was also marked by austerity and honesty. By the way there's a square in the town with his bust statue and it's named "Praça José Linhares da Páscoa", in his honor and memory.

Zé da Páscoa was my grandfather and unfortunately he passed away in 1995 at the age of 71 when he was in charge of the financial department of Quixadá.
